This diploma thesis aims to analyze the attitudes of Czech society towards migration and international migrants in the context of the migration crisis between 2014, 2015 and 2017. The conclusion will focus on the behavior of the respondents in the crisis and analyze which groups of respondents have changed their sympathies and antipathies towards individual migration groups and evaluate the conditional factors that influenced the attitudes of the respondents. The thesis draws on data from nationwide research of the Center for Public Opinion Research of the Institute of Sociology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, v.v.i. commissioned by the Department of Social Geography and Regional Development of Charles University in 2014, 2015 and 2017. Public attitudes towards European integration in the Czech Republic
Chytrá, Valérie ; Císař, Ondřej (advisor) ; Soukup, Petr (referee)
The European integration project started as a primarily economic project of political elites. Over time, it developed to deal with political and cultural issues and became an object of interest for the European general public. We recognize various factors that are connected to citizens' support towards European integration which reflect the issues that European integration brings together. Research commonly distinguishes three lines of explanation for public attitudes towards European integration. In this thesis, we are asking which factors are associated with support towards European integration in the Czech Republic. The regression analysis is based on European Social Survey data from 2020. The results show that support for European integration in the Czech Republic is recently connected the most to cultural factors which are support for immigration and the strength of national and European identity. Fairly strong predictors are also political factors such as trust in domestic political institutions and satisfaction with democracy. To a lesser extent but still significant are also economic factors, specifically evaluation of personal financial situation and national economic situation. Overall, the support is linked more strongly to issues that tend to be more stable over time, rather than to...

Vágnerová, Kristýna ; Trnka, Radek (advisor) ; Karadžos, Alexis (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to answer the question how differ the attitudes of zoologists and general public on suitability of various mammals kept in zoos. The theory of cultural stereotypes is theoretical starting point where i assume that evaluation is influenced on the basis of cultural stereotypes among general public (n = 100) versus expert evaluation of graduates of zoology (n = 60). Questionnaire with a scale enumeration concerning the assessment of the suitability of selected groups of mammals for breeding in zoos was used as the main data collection instrument. Results of the survey showed that experts evaluated the suitability of mamals for breeding in zoo more positive than laymens in general. According general public were equines and rodents rated as relatively unsuitable for breeding in zoos in comparison with expert evaluation. Elephant, orangutan, platypus, tiger, bear and cheetah were rated as relatively suitable for breeding in zoos by general public against expert evaluation. The possible interpretation might be that these mammals belong to the most popular and therefore respondents want to experience personal contact with them. Statistical testing found no gender differences in the rating. Key words: zoos, public attitudes, zoologists' attitudes, mammals, cultural stereotypes,...
The analysis of society attitudes and the access of libraries to the disabled people
Molíková, Barbora ; Fonferová, Ľudmila (advisor) ; Buřilová, Marcela (referee)
This study focuses on disabled users of public libraries. First, general attitude towards physically handicapped people is analyzed on the basis of literature review. Furthermore, past surveys were utilized in order to describe attitudes demonstrated by library staff in particular as well as approach taken by the libraries in order to ease access for disabled users to library services. Analysis is complemented by overview of current projects aimed to improve accessibility of libraries including communication facilities and tools overcoming construction barriers. General principles of barrier-free access to libraries are derived from this overview. The field survey in the second part of this study evaluates accessibility of selected libraries from the point of view of disables users. The sample focused particularly on libraries which have not been reviewed yet. Particular conditions in each library classify the respective institution to the corresponding category of accessibility. Derived knowledge was published on website of Pražská organizace vozíčkářů, o.s. (Prague wheelchair association, NGO).

Diploma thesis Problem of homelessness Supervisor: MUDr. Jiřina Ondrušová Author: Bc. Veronika Konopásková Year of submission: 2013 Annotation The topic of the thesis is the problem of homelessness in contemporary Czech society. Specifically, it focuses on the concept of homelessness, its forms, history and presence in the Czech Republic. Lay Public awareness of the Probation and Mediation Service
HUPÁKOVÁ, Markéta
Together with the reform of the criminal justice it was necessary to form a complex system of activities concerning the realization and effective usage of the introduced system of alternative punishments and deviations in criminal proceedings. On the basis of this requirement the institution of the Probation and Mediation Service (PMS) of the Czech Republic was established in 2001. The mission of the PMS is to create conditions for alternative punishments use in the course of the criminal proceedings and to ensure the effective execution of alternative punishments. For this purpose this service carries out the probation and mediation and participates in settlement of disputes between the accused and accusers and makes efforts to appease conflict situations and to restore the respect for rules of law. The integral part of the PMS mission is prevention and reducing the risk of the recurrence of criminal activity. The objective of the thesis is to examine the real public awareness of the Probation and Mediation Service of the Czech Republic, to give account of the lay public attitudes to the institution of alternative punishments. The thesis also studies opinions of alternative punishments in professionals who cooperate with the Probation and Mediation Service. Before the research the following hypotheses were stated: H I: The awareness of the lay public of the Probation and Mediation Service is low. Partial H I: The lay public gets information mostly through the television broadcasting. H II: The cooperation of professionals with the Probation and Mediation Service influences the attitude to alternative punishments, which become more acceptable to be imposed. To verify the hypotheses the quantitative research, the questionnaire method was used. I made up standardised questionnaires with a series of 15 questions. The first research set was composed of the lay public. 100 persons aged 20 {--} 60 years were chosen at random. The other research set comprised staff members of subjects cooperating with the Probation and Mediation Service of the Police of the Czech Republic, of local and municipal authorities, of the Employment Office, of the prison system. 50 persons were addressed on the whole. The results show that the H I as well as the partial H I, relating to the awareness of the lay public of the Probation and Mediation Service, were confirmed. The hypothesis II, focused on attitudes of professionals cooperating with the PMS to alternative punishments, was rejected.
